"Jump"

As part of the public speaking unit the class has been occasionally viewing famous speeches, or speeches from popular culture. Today we viewed this recent speech given by Steve Harvey.
We discussed the metaphor of jumping and how that relates to striving for our goals.
We discussed how he made us feel, and why he makes us feel motivated.
And also the techniques he uses in delivering his speech; his tone, his pace.

Art Parody

Parody: an imitation for comic effect.

The student's latest art project is to create a parody of a masterpiece. Their parody can be funny or ironic, it can be drawn in a cartoon or comic book style, and it should have a contemporary twist.

Mother Teresa's "Anyway" Poem

I was reminded of this poem the other day, written by Mother Teresa.
I would like to share it with you, as a reminder to persevere when brought down by others.

Welcome!

Hello grade 8 students as well as parents/guardians who may be visiting this page.

My name is Miss Chamberlain, I am a Brock University student currently in the consecutive Teacher Education program for Junior/Intermediate grades. I am also a graduate from Brock University's Visual Arts program (Bachelor of Arts/Honours). I enjoy painting and photography and submit my work to art shows often, I have even had paintings shown in Bulgaria. Some of my other interests include reading and writing poetry. I also enjoy soccer, hockey and basketball; I have played soccer for many years and hockey for some time as well. I would also like to let you know I will be helping out with the Girls Intermediate Basketball team!

That is a little about me, now a little about this blog..

I will be having my internship in the grade 8 class from December 7 - December 18, where I will be executing some lessons. Beginning in the new year, from January 4 - February 5, I will be student teaching full time and taking over the language public speaking unit, math (circles, then integers), as well as the healthy living unit. This purpose of this blog is to assist students, whether they were absent for the day, are missing notes, forgot parts of the lesson, or need to go over the material once more at home. Students can visit this page and through the tabs at the top, be able to navigate themselves to the material they are missing and go over it once more. Notes and slides from each lesson I teach will be posted to the blog by latest 5pm at the end of the day.

Parents/guardians, I hope this blog will be of use to you as well by keeping you updated on what the students are engaging in day-to-day.
